my platform

Jacquie Hermans is a take action woman, that gets things done. Jacquie is running for Ward 3 Councillor in the October 2026 Municipal elections.

Practical Leadership. Strong Community. A Voice for Every Generation.

I believe local government should help people thrive — not create barriers that make it harder to live, work, volunteer, raise families, or age in the community we love. As a longtime community builder, small business owner, youth advocate, and supporter of seniors, I want to bring practical, compassionate leadership to Township Council.

Jacquie wants to ensure that the Township of Uxbridge is accessible to seniors so they can remain in their homes for as long as they wish.

Supporting Seniors to Age in Place

Uxbridge has a growing senior population, and many older adults want to remain in the community they helped build — close to family, friends, and familiar surroundings. To make that possible, we need to ensure our township is accessible, connected, safe, and inclusive for residents of all ages.

I have listened to the concerns being raised by seniors and families in our community, and several priorities continue to stand out.

I will advocate for:

  • Reducing social isolation by supporting community programs and opportunities for seniors to stay active and connected.

  • Improving transportation awareness, including better communication around Durham Region Transit on-demand services, for residents who can no longer drive.

  • Safer sidewalks, walkways, and crosswalks through improved maintenance, snow clearing, and accessibility upgrades that support those using walkers, wheelchairs, or mobility aids.

  • Applying a ā€œseniors lensā€ to future planning and development so that accessibility, mobility, and inclusion are considered in every community decision.

A strong community is one where people of all ages can participate fully and live with dignity, independence, and connection. I want seniors in Uxbridge to feel seen, heard, supported, and valued.

Jacquie Hermans wants to build future leaders in the Township of Uxbridge by giving youth a voice at council.

A Stronger Voice for Youth

For six years, I served as Community Resource Coordinator for the City of Markham, where I coordinated the Mayor’s Youth Task Force. Each year, youth from Grades 8–12 applied to participate and worked directly with the Mayor and Council to help shape community initiatives.

Together, we:

  • Organized youth mental health conferences

  • Celebrated International Youth Week

  • Supported youth artists and poets through community contests

  • Created opportunities for young people to contribute ideas and solutions to local issues

I want to bring that same spirit to Uxbridge.

I will advocate for:

  • A Youth Advisory Council that reports directly to Council

  • More leadership and volunteer opportunities for teens

  • Youth-focused mental health and wellness initiatives

  • More spaces, events, and programming for teens

  • Meaningful consultation with youth before major community decisions

Young people are not only ā€œfuture leadersā€ — they are leaders now, and they deserve a seat at the table.

Jacquie Hermans wants to remove unnecessary red tape to make it easier for entrepreneurs in Uxbridge to be successful.

Reducing Red Tape for Small Businesses

As a small business owner myself, I understand how difficult it can be to navigate regulations, zoning, permits, and rising costs.

Too many residents with valuable skills and entrepreneurial ideas are being blocked by expensive and complicated processes. When it costs tens of thousands of dollars to pursue a zoning change for a small local business, something is wrong.

We should be encouraging responsible local entrepreneurship — not making it impossible.

I will advocate for:

  • Reviewing costly zoning and permit processes

  • More transparency and guidance for residents navigating applications

  • Support for home-based and small-scale businesses where appropriate

  • Faster, clearer communication from the Township

  • Practical solutions that balance neighbourhood concerns with economic opportunity

Strong local businesses create jobs, strengthen the community, and help families afford to stay in Uxbridge.

When it comes to budgets, Jacquie Hermans will vote for responsible spending in the Township of Uxbridge

Responsible Spending & Taxpayer Accountability

Residents are feeling the pressure of rising costs everywhere — groceries, housing, utilities, and taxes.

With increasing financial pressures from Durham Region and the Province, taxpayers deserve transparency, accountability, and careful decision-making.

I will advocate for:

  • Responsible budgeting and fiscal transparency

  • Careful review of spending priorities

  • Protecting core services while respecting taxpayers

  • Ensuring residents understand where tax dollars are going

  • Speaking up when costs become unsustainable for families and seniors

Council may not control every decision made at the regional or provincial level, but your councillor should still ask hard questions, demand accountability, and stand up for residents.

Together, we can create a thriving Uxbridge Community for all generations.

Leadership Rooted in Community

I believe:

  • Communities work best when people feel heard

  • Government should help residents succeed, not create unnecessary obstacles

  • Every generation deserves representation

  • Practical solutions matter more than politics

I’m running to bring community experience, collaboration, and common sense to Township Council.

Together, we can build a more connected, affordable, and inclusive Uxbridge.
